Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE:R) filed a WARN notice with the Wisconsin State Department of Workforce Development saying it is closing its Ryder Integrated Logistics offices and warehouse in Greenville.

Hundreds of Texans employed with soft-serve ice-cream and fast-food chain Dairy Queen are about to get laid off. We’ll be seeing dozens of Dairy Queen restaurants closing across the state in the days to come as a Texas-based franchisee operating Dairy Queen locations enters bankruptcy. Layoffs at X-Pine Systems Inc to Start in December X-Spine Systems, Inc filed a notice with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, stating that it plans to close its facility and lay off approximately 54 workers. The closure will be permanent, with layoffs beginning on December 8 and continuing through the end of February 2018.
It’s been a strange year for the restaurant business. As many as a quarter of new jobs were created in the restaurant sector as recently as June. In some cities, the share of job creation rises to about a third of all jobs generated. And yet, hundreds of restaurants closed in 2017 so far.
Nestle, Chevron, and State Farm to Cut Jobs in California The local economy in Bakersfield, California is getting hit hard by a number of layoffs. It’s difficult to say that the retail Armageddon is being overblown when you consider 2017 is the worst year on record for store closures. In the first half of 2017, more than 300 retailers filed for bankruptcy; a 31% increase year-over-year. Since the start of the year, U.S. retailers have shuttered 6,700 stores.
Major restaurant chains like Pizza Hut, Inc. and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) planning to automate their services have been served a major blow this week as news of Eatsa closing most of its locations makes headlines. Chipotle Losses Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE:CMG) has once more had a tough go of it on the stock market, falling short of expectations and sending share prices tumbling. Chipotle losses have already harmed how many new jobs the company will add this year.
This year has been annus horribilus for restaurant businesses—particularly, a year of great misfortune for employees of the restaurant industry.
